Have You Looked at Your Cellphone Bill Lately?
You might write a check every month to your service provider, or you may have an automated payment plan in place, but you should take a moment to review your monthly charges. Here's why:
- A few errors and extra charges by your service provider on each customer's bill result in huge profits to the service provider (i.e.: A $.05 overcharge to 20 million subscribers equals $1 million dollars per month profit).
- Don't assume that computer-generated billing is 100 percent accurate.
- Add-on fees are everywhere on your bill. State agencies and local governments have tacked on additional fees to cellphone users because they think it is the line of least resistance for new revenues. You already pay for 911 service on your landline, and now you probably pay for it on your cellphone...even if you are a single subscriber to both services. Additionally, you now pay for E911 service on your cellphone; for WNP (Wireless Number Portability), even though it will not be available until November 2003; Federal, State, and Local Taxes; a Universal Service Fund fee; and before long, maybe a tax to help pay for the new football or baseball stadium in your area.
